WADSWORTH -- Barbara was born August 7, 1925, in Port Jervis, New York, to Charles and Belva Armstrong.

She was a graduate of Rochester, Pa. High School and Muskingum College. She began her teaching career in 1946 at Wadsworth High School. In 1952, she married her fellow teacher, Jack Schaffer, and they were blessed with a daughter, Sarah and a son, Philip. She later taught at Cloverleaf Junior High School until her retirement in 1982.

Barbara loved her family, collecting stamps, reading, and traveling to such places as China, Australia, Russia, Europe, and all 50 states.

She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church and a former member of Parmi Nous.

She is survived by her husband, Jack; her daughter, Sarah (Schaffer) and her husband John Hoffman and their children Benjamin, Jordan, and Lynne Hoffman of Hilliard, Ohio; her son, Philip Schaffer and his wife Tammy (Dunlap) and their son Clinton Schaffer of Montville Township. She was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Jessica Lynn Schaffer.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, February 19 and from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Monday, February 20, at the Hilliard-Rospert Funeral Home, 174 N. Lyman St., Wadsworth, where funeral service will be conducted at 11:30 a.m. Interment at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Grace Lutheran Church, 146 High St., Wadsworth.
