I was so lucky to have Billy as a friend. His presence in a room always made me feel safe. His laugh and gentle manner (along with his outwardly frightening appearance) always had a calming effect on people. It was hard not to like Bill and his family, plus they had a pool.
I remember one day in Kindergarten when he took his coat off, he was wearing a white undershirt. He was emarrased because he was supposed to have another shirt over it, and he cried a little. Our teacher was great, she said "Billy, doesn't your Dad sometimes only wear his undershirt, and he's a grownup, so today you can be the grownup". I had a crush on that teacher (and every other girl in kindergarten...Rhonda Carney-xxx)
It was aslo great to have Bill as a friend since he was able to buy beer at whitey's after the 6th grade.
Billy had such a great way about him, right down to the way he was constantly adjusting his glasses. Good memories.
