John was a great friend who loved adventures as did I.  John's dad dropped us and a 10 foot John Boat several days up the Skunk River, whence we floated down to where he picked us up.  We were as green as we could be, but managed to drag the boat over logs, camp out with the bare minimums, swim and fish, all while not having any PFD's along if I remember correctly.   John, cousin Denny Loeffleer and I took a trip north up to Leech Lake in Northern Minnesota, where we tried several times to kill ourselves out on waves beyond ours and our crafts capabilities, sat and smoked cigars, played poker and imbibed a little on non-parent approved beverages. Drove my follks new Rambler Classic throught Minneapolis to the music of "Hot Town, Summer in the City. Back of my neck getting pretty gritty." by Lovin Spoonful.

We had many memories of track, wrestling and the time John cracked a bone in my wrist while busting out of the "bull in the ring" drill as freshman footballers.  Needless to say anyone that payed attention to WHS football knew John as a juggernaut on the field!  Low to the ground, solid as a brick shithouse, and FAST! He was a great trackster and ran on the 4x800 relay and set a school record if I recall  correctly with Danny Martin, and two others I will remember in time.   John was a hard working farmer on the family farm and I hope he gets the peace and rest from the hard work of a lifetime.
