I only knew Joe Davi as a classmate from WHS. We took a few classes together, pass each other in the hallways and always say "hi".
I did visit his inscription during my 1995 visit to "The Wall" in Washington, DC. Through the VietNam Veteran's Memorial Wall site, I also corresponded with a close boyhood friend of Joe's - Joe Waldron.
Mr. Waldron wrote: "Joe was KIA in September 1966. He was trying to rescue another soldier injured by a friendly mine -- both were killed. So under the rules of the time, he didn't count as KIA, but "by other means." He was buried in Gales Ferry, CT."
