Waynesville, David Atkins, age 51, passed away on Saturday, December 25, 2010 at his residence.

A native of Bennettsville, South Carolina, he was the son of the late Lawrence DeWitt and Betty Hope Gibson Atkins. He was assistant manager at Sherwin-Williams and a member of First United Methodist Church of Waynesville. David will be remembered as a genuinely kind-hearted person who never met a stranger. He enjoyed watching sports, was an avid reader, and also enjoyed learning about history.

He is survived by two sisters, Mary Beth Foster and Rebecca Wiley and her husband, Gary; a brother, John Atkins; and nephews, Andrew, Timothy, and Grady Wiley, all of Waynesville.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, December 31, 2010 in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Kathy Wilson officiating. Burial will be at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services.
