Marie C. Cameron of Moorestown died quietly at home on Tuesday, June 1, 2010, amid family and friends.

She was born on Oct. 26, 1929, in Philadelphia, and grew up in Riverside.

A graduate of Trenton State Teacher's College, Marie taught physical education for several years before acquiring a Master's Degree and becoming a high school guidance counselor. As such she worked in Olean and West Islip, N.Y., and then for many years at Haddonfield Memorial High School.

Marie actively supported charities at both community and national levels and extended a helping hand to many individuals in need. To ask Marie was to receive. She long volunteered at St. Francis' Inn, a Philadelphia soup kitchen, and was an Associate of the Franciscan Sisters of Allegany, N.Y.

An outstanding athlete in her youth, Marie was the first woman admitted to Riverside High School's Sports Hall of Fame. As an adult, she loved flowers and was always happy at work in her garden. She also took exuberant pride and pleasure in her Irish heritage.

Marie was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers.

She is survived by her sister, Philomena Cameron Friedman of Etna, N.H.; a niece, Deborah Trocchi of Alexandria, Va.; nephews, David Cameron of Delran, Mark Cameron of Destin, Fla., Andrew Friedman of Seattle, Wash., and Michael Friedman of Chevy Chase, Md.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to a viewing and visitation for Marie on Monday evening 6 to 8 p.m. and Tuesday morning 9 to 10 a.m. at The Lankenau & Van Newenhizen Moorestown Memorial Home, 334 Chester Ave., Moorestown.

The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, 42 W. Main St., Moorestown. Interment will be in Saint Peter's Cemetery, Riverside.

It would be especially appropriate if memorial gifts were directed to St. Francis Inn, 2241 Kensington Ave., Philadelphia, PA 19125-1235, or Samaritan Hospice, 300 Eves Dr., Suite 300, Marlton, NJ 08053-3191.
