Obituary of Christopher John SCHILLING

Passed away peacefully at home in Palm Beach Gardens, surrounded by family on December 1, 2021. Chris was born on July 10, 1951 in Medina, New York to Catherine M. and Max T. Schilling, the family moved to North Palm Beach in 1959. He graduated from Cardinal Newman High School where he met many life-long friends and met the love of his life, Ann Sweeney Schilling. They shared 51 years of marriage and four wonderful sons. Chris attended the University of Florida where he earned BA and JD Degrees. He practiced law in Palm Beach County for many years, most recently working with long-time colleague and friend Mario G. de Mendoza.

Chris enjoyed sports and followed his beloved Florida Gators passionately. He was actively involved in local youth sports and coached many of his sons’ teams. For over 25 years, Chris was proud to serve as the “Voice of Dwyer Baseball” at W.T. Dwyer High School.

A kind man with a wonderful sense of humor, Chris thrived on being with people. But his greatest love was his family. In addition to his best friend and loving wife Ann, Chris is survived by his beloved sons: James, of Naples; Paul (Sandra), of Tequesta; Thomas (Barb), of St. Augustine; John (Megan), of Tampa. He was a devoted grandfather to Catherine, Emma, Alexis, Joshua, Amanda, and Jack. Chris is also survived by his sister, Mary Faith Saavedra of North Palm Beach; brother, Greg (Eileen), of Tallahassee; sister, Juliann (Bob) of Boston, Massachusetts; and many dear cousins, nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews. Also surviving are additional loving family members Justin, Damian (Jessica), Jeda and Noah Beale.

Chris was an integral part of both his and Ann’s extended families, and gatherings were a source of joy and hilarity for all as he shared his knowledge and humor with the younger generations. His warmth, humor, and kindness will be missed by all who knew and loved him. He faced his battle with pancreatic cancer with courage and humor for four years, which served as an inspiration to his family and friends. Chris especially wanted to thank his life-long friend, Pat O’Hara, for his compassion and support throughout his journey.

In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honor his memory may make a donation to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or Autism Speaks. His family wishes to thank Trustbridge of Palm Beach County for the extraordinary care provided to Chris during his final days.

A Celebration of Chris’ Life will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Friday, December 10, at Howard Quattlebaum Funeral Home in North Palm Beach. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11a.m. on Saturday, December 11, at St. Clare Catholic Church in North Palm Beach.
