Hello WA Class of 1980!!  Welcome to 2015!!                                                                               June 16, 2015

Although we had the best of intentions, we did not get to pull together a 35th reunion but we WILL look to plan our 40th!  Anyone interested in being on the planning committee, please email me at and put REUNION in the subject line so I don't miss the email.

It seems like since turning 50, there have been milestones reached by many of our alumni including their children graduating from highschool and college, children getting married, children having children.  The next generation is now where we were just a few short years ago, and I am sure you are finding as I have that "we" are starting to move into the position as the elders in the family.... such a scary position to hold!

The last time a group from the class of 1980 gathered together was at the Surfside 5 in Salisbury MA during the summer of 2012.... it was a great turnout and everyone seemed to have a great time catching up with each other and just having fun!

There is a possibility that we will have a similar type of event in early September, however it will also serve as a means to help one of our alumni who is going through a medical struggle at the moment.  I am sure most of you know that Ron DeFreitas has been diagnosed with prostate cancer, has had surgery and is now on the long road to recovery.  You would think that healing and recovering would be the only thing Ron should have to focus on, however medical bills are mounting due to costs not covered by conventional insurance.  For this reason, with the help of Doug <Sheppo> Shepard and hopefully others, we are going to try to organize a ride to help Ron.  Although people who ride tend to get a negative rap from people, bikers are some of the warmest, most generous groups of people out there and will 'ride' for people they don't even know, understanding it is for a good cause... that is good enough!  Because of this, we will hope to draw a large crowd of people we know and people we will get to know to help defray medical costs for Ron.  For those who do  not ride, we will be planning a get together immediately following for a minimal entrance fee which will of course all be earmarked for the same cause.  For those who do not know how this type of fundraiser works, people will pay to ride their motorcycles in a planned route that usually goes for an hour or two, and then returns to the origination point for a cookout and some type of music venue after. Depending on the 'ride', food can be donated, bands donate their time, people donate their time for the cause..... There is a lot of planning to do, so if you would like to volunteer your time, don't have a problem asking for handouts from the community, can take a task to completion, want to help in any capacity, a committee will be forming.  The ideal would be holding the event on Saturday with a rain date of Sunday.  Again, if interested please email me at and put RIDE in the subject line.

For those of you who don't live in the area, why not consider a weekend back in New England in September?  We really don't have a lot of time so I will publish dates as soon as we can formulate a plan.

Please continue to update your information; to those who have, thank you!   We will post any important news or events from our class on here!  Information can be of marriages, additions to your families, or whatever you would like to share with your class.

I hope we can get something together for September and many of you will be able to attend, and hope some will show interest in joining in the planning process for our 40th reunion!!
