I was honored to be a pall bearer at Mrs Terry's funeral. Although I only took band for one year under her she made a positive influence in my life. She loved WISD and the town of Whitehouse with all of her heart.

RIP Mrs Terry

Mrs. Newkirk/Terry was the reason why I stuck with Music. I cannot express the sadness I have just learning that she had passed away. She took out a lot of time with me because she always told me she saw great potential in my music career. She is the reason I majored in Band in college. We always talked when I came home from college on holidays. Not knowing about her battle with cancer, I expected to see her at the reunion. I will truly along with others miss her greatly. I loved her for the contribution that she added to my life.

Not only was Nancy Newkirk Terry my band director, she also became my God Mother and God Grandmother to my son, respectively they became : "RAY RAY and Nanna". Although I have fond memories of band etc. My fondest memories are the vacations that myself, Pam Carlile, and Becky Nix on the road for 2 weeks at a time with the Terry's on their summer vacations. They footed the bill and showed us the world, so to speak. Nanna had a very positive influence on me, but also believed in letting me have my fun.....She always treated my son as if he was her own grandson, as she did many of our children, I am sure.

Every day I step out to my driveway, there is a 1988 cadillac that was hers sitting in my driveway. Its my reminder. Although, I don't drive it, I keep it up and it reminds me of all the trips I took with them, I guess.
Just can't seem to let it go.

Ray Ray - you were very blessed to have had each other. Know that you are still loved very much.

I too was a band student of Mrs. New/Terry! Her love of music was passed on to all of us who sat under her teaching. She was so full of life and I remember those days in the band fondly because of her. I remember how devastated we all were when she gave up her position as band director. She always comes to mind when I think of my high school years.

Miss Newkirk taught us music in the little rock cottage (used to be the homemaking cottage - I think). She would play us records and we had to identify the instruments. That was the beginning!

She and Mr. Terry would pick us up for Sunday School and church on the "Marie" bus for First Baptist Church services. They taught us in Sunday School, GA's, Bible School and so many more activities. She was a wonderful lady, a good friend and a great influence.

I know where she resides and I will see her again. Thanks Mrs. Terry for all you taught me and how much you always cared!

Love, Karen
