I am glad to know someone else felt the same way about that. Every time I hear that song I start moving! Hasn't been that long ago that I got my trumpet out (yes, I still have it) and tried to play it. I felt such a bond with all the band members - you were like family!

RE: Band and Drill Team Memories

I was in the High School band from 7th - 12th grades (the school didn't have a junior high until we were in 8th but since we'd already been in the HS band a year, we stayed and there was not a junior high band until later) so there were many great trips and contests that we attended. One of the best ones I remember was a trip to Memphis for the Cotton Carnival that happened my Freshman year. Nancy (Newkirk)Terry was our band director and Judy McBride was our drum major. Each band that was there had an hour or so to play on the town square. We were playing and despite being only about 80 members, the mayor of Memphis heard us from his office several blocks away. He sent someone down to the square and had us march down to the mayor's office where he presented us with the keys to the city.
