Funeral services for Vernon Thedford, 79, Whitehouse, will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday at Burks Walker Tippit chapel with the Rev. Mike Cline officiating. Burial will follow at Whitehouse Cemetery. Mr. Thedford died Sept. 12, 2009, in a Tyler hospice.

He was born April 9, 1930, in Tyler to the late Russell and Verdie Thedford, and had lived in the Whitehouse/Flint areas all his life. He worked for Young Motor Company, which became Richardson Ford as a mechanic and later retired from Whitehouse ISD after 20 years of teaching auto mechanics. Mr. Thedford was an outdoorsman and loved to fish and deer hunt.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Maurine Thedford.

He is survived by wife of 44 years, Carolyn Thedford of Whitehouse; son and daughter-in-law, Terry and Linda Thedford of Flint; and one grandchild.

Pallbearers will be Bob Hagan, Harry Stainback, Tim McClenny, Jimmy McClenny, Acker Hanks and Jerald McMillan.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to service time at the funeral home.

Im so sorry to hear about Mr. Thedford. He was never my teacher but you were. He was a very nice man. My prayers are with you and your family.

My thoughts and prayers to the Thedford family. Not only did Mr. Thedford teach us alot about cars and such. He taught us to work together. We learned friendship in his class. Auto mech was my favorite class {'74,'75}. RIP in Mr.Thedford

OUR FEELINGS GO OUT TO THE FAMILY...MR. THEDFORD WAS ALWAYS ONE OF OUR FAVORITE TEACHERS. HE GAVE US A LITTLE ROOM TO BE OURSELVES AND IM QUITE SURE THAT CAME AT A GREAT PERSONAL SACRIFICE SOMETIMES. I WOULD HAVE BEEN TOUGH TO PUT UP WITH ALL THE SHANANIGANS WE PULLED BACK IN 71-72 AUTO MECH CLASS.A GOOD MAN AND HE WILL BE MISSED

Vernon was a very good man and teacher,I and others that was lucky enough to have him as a auto mechanics teacher will surly miss him,he made going to school more fun,as you knew he was always fair and honest.
