I remember a day when Christie and I skipped school, hopped on the bus and headed downtown. Just as we walked around a corner we ran smack into her dad on his lunch hour. But he was very sweet. He looked at us and said, “Well, I guess the fun is over for today girls, you better get back to school now.” And he gave us a lift. In 1977 when I moved back to Wichita from Maryland, I ran into Rick Smith, and told him the one person I wanted to see the most was Christie Barnes. He gave me the sad news that she died in college. I’ve thought so much about you over the years Christie. You were one of the best friends I ever had. What a fun-loving person you were!
