Charles Sanger (Teacher)

Charles “Chuck” E. Sanger, 88, passed away December 25, 2016. Chuck was born June 10, 1928 in Herington, Kansas. Chuck graduated from Herington High School and then went to Emporia State University where he earned his degree in teaching. While at ESU he earned 7 varsity letters in football, basketball and track and field. He is best known as the leader of the 1950 Central Intercollegiate Conference Championship team. Chuck was named to many all conference and all state teams as well as the Associated Press Little All American Team. Chuck was inducted into the Emporia State Athletic Hall of Fame in 1990. After college, Chuck was invited to try out for several professional football teams but instead enlisted in the United States Marines. Chuck was a First Lieutenant and a Veteran of the Korean War. On August 10, 1953 he married Ardra Stanley and they lived a long and happy life together. Together they had 3 children and 5 grandchildren. Chuck retired from Northeast High School where he taught Biology and had an inspiring career as a Varsity Basketball Coach. He taught his players how to not only be successful in the game but more importantly in life! Chuck also served as the Director of Parking for K.C. Royals and Manager of the visiting Clubhouse for the K.C. Chiefs.
