Agnes Newbrey (Teacher)

Agnes Darline Newbrey, 91, Towanda, died Friday, Feb. 14, 2014 at Lakepoint Rehabilitation Center. Agnes was born on Sept. 16, 1922, the daughter of Wilbur E. and Martha Grace (Davis) Arasmith. She graduated from Downs High School and received a M.A. from Ft. Hays University. She was an English teacher and taught school for 21 years at West High in Wichita. Agnes enjoyed swimming a half mile each day until the age of 83 years. She was a member of Faith Christian Church and attended First Christian Church in El Dorado. On Oct. 11, 1944, Agnes and Orel Newbrey were united marriage in Osborne, Kan. (Butler County Times-Gazette, February 15, 2014: http://www.butlercountytimesgazette.com/article/20140214/OBITUARIES/140219502)

Newbrey Replaces Former Instructor (West Word, February 17, 1967)

Mrs. Agnes Newbrey has joined the West High faculty this semester, replacing Mrs. Pat West in the English department. She will be teaching both sophomore and junior English classes.

She received her A.B. degree from Fort Hays State College in Fort Hays State College in Fort Hays, Kansas, and has been a substitute teacher in the various Wichita high schools.

Mrs. Newbrey and her family moved here last July from Great Bend, Kansas. After her week of classes, Mrs. Newbrey said, “I really like it here at West. The students all seem so friendly.”
