In Memory

Jack Eugene Spurgeon

Jack Spurgeon was born December 1, 1948. He passed away on July 11, 2017. Jack was born and raised in Wichita, Kansas and graduated from Wichita High School West. He rose above a very difficult childhood to become the unique and special man that he was. During the Vietnam era, he was drafted into the U.S. Army. He bravely served his country by walking point for his unit for more than 13 months. After completing his tour of duty and returning to the States, he continued his service by enlisting in the National Guard.

He was employed with International Union of the Elevator Constructors and worked in service and construction for numerous companies. His exemplary work ethic and commitment to perfection in his craft was second to none. He loved and enjoyed his career within the elevator trade.

After retiring, he continued to be involved in the elevator trade as a consultant on various projects. He also performed additional consultation, assistance and support for his good friend and previous employer, Harold Adams.

Jack was a member of Calvary Nexus Church of Camarillo. Jack realized the importance of his relationship with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and read his bible daily. He volunteered his time at the church in whatever capacity was needed.

Jack deeply loved his family and he demonstrated that love regularly in his daily life and activities. He was a humble and frugal man with simplistic and basic expectations. Material things were not overly important to him. One of his favorite sayings was “As long as I have a dry place to sleep and food in my stomach, I’m a happy man”.
