Kerry Chastain

Kerry Chastain

Kerry Chastain, 59, died peacefully at his home, October 20th. Born in Wichita, KS he graduated from Wichita West High School and served that community as a fireman and policeman for ten years. Kerry moved to Olathe in 1983 where he started a successful environmental business-TESCO. Kerry's great joy in his life was his family and his business which grew regionally. Kerry was deeply spiritual. His love of God and his fellowman was infectious to all who crossed his path. His courageous battle for life was hard fought and was inspirational to all. West Boasts 3 Teen Combos (West Word, April 23, 1965)

The “Bue Cotts,” another local band, has been together for about a year and a half and is in the process of auditioning for a record cutting.  Most Pioneers have seen a lot of the “Bue Cotts” in various places in the past year and a half.  Not only have they played in the Student Lounge but they also had a part in the Junior Assembly this year.  Their most current steady job has been at Howard’s, but since the closing of that establishment, they have been playing at different dances and other parties in the towns around Wichita.

The people who comprise the “Bue Cotts” are Kerry Chastain, lead guitar; Ronnie Brown, rhythm guitar and vocalist; Tom Fulzenloger, organ; Mike Shelley, base guitar; and Neal McGaugh, drums. The unusual name of the band was the idea of Kerry, although none of the boys seem to know exactly what it means.  Practice for the boys is four nights a week. They learn the songs they play from recording of other groups.  The next time Pioneers will have an opportunity to see these boys will be at the Student Council sponsored “Haul Your Man Hoe-Down” dance, April 30.
