Wilbur Dorsey (Assistant Principal)

Wilbur Charles Dorsey, died on Dec. 1, 2018 at the age of 92. He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Luella J. Cook-Dorsey. They have three children, John and his wife Pat, Robert “Rob” and his wife Debbie and Deaune Bogatay and her husband, Fred. Seven grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren also survive. He retired from the Wichita Public Schools as the Division Director for Data Processing and Pupil Accounting after 38 years in education. He was a member of the Midian Shrine Band where he played the baritone.  Luella and he enjoyed a summer home in Estes Park, Colorado since 2003. In Estes he also played in the Village Band. Wilbur helped organize a computer group called M.A.C.E. where he served as their executive director for many years. After serving in the U.S Navy during W.W. II, he graduated from Emporia State University and began teaching and coaching at Beverly, Kansas, Rural High School in 1950. The following year he moved to East High School as a business teacher and assisted coaching swimming and worked as manager of the football team. In 1956 he moved to West High as Assistant Principal until 1965 when he moved to the central office. From the University of Denver, he received a Master of Arts degree and from Emporia State, an Education Specialist degree. Wilbur served as Treasurer for Hillside Christian Church. He enjoyed both golf and bowling along with fishing and hiking in the mountains.
