Cindy and I went all the way back to 2nd grade. I will never forget her mother reading Winnie the Pooh, each character having a different and perfect voice, at the Elkins Park Library. Cindy also had a monkey named Cheeky, which was really exotic for the time. Cindy was really funny, always had a quip and a smile, fought for 5 long and valiant years against cancer, and died way too young.

Miss my girl Cyndi. She was so full of life and we had so much fun together. Her family was a second family to me, her home a second home. Wit, brains, and heart.

Cindi was my first girlfriend and gave me my first true kiss while hanging out on a hammock (Robert McGonigal’s?) talking for what seemed forever while our friends continued to play capture the flag or some version of tag.  There was the Junior Prom with that g-d awful huge corsage I got her and slow dancing to “Sweet Melissa”.  There was taking the bus alone down the shore (Sorry, down to the shore) to spend several days with her and her family, sitting on the couch watching the Phillies.

She had no sense of direction which I could never understand for such an intelligent person.  She could hardly make it the few blocks driving between her house and mine. They had a pet monkey way before Ross and “Friends” and her dad drove this really weird car that was French (Citroen).

She was optimistic and hopeful and while I think I only saw her once after high school I know that she was in a committed relationship and was loved dearly.  She liked to write poetry which was really bad, but who am I to judge.

Sometime after her funeral her mother sent me a package of some windup toys that apparently were part of Cindi’s collection.  As I sit here writing this I am looking at a little tombstone with R.I.P. on it and a little white ghost that goes up and down with Boo! written across it’s chest.

She loved the beach and the sun and sadly that was ultimately the cause of her far too early passing away. I have missed her and will always cherish her friendship and our memories.
