Wilton Machen was a great Alto Saxophone player. I had the honor of playing in the South High School Band next to him. Though a quite cat, he knew jazz and could play like 'Charlie Parker". He was definitely ahead of his time on making the horn show color, and direction. Though he went to Hillman and i went to Princeton, I had an immediate respect for a gret artist that knew how to improvise. I had so much respect that I got kicked out of the band in my senior year improving with Wilton. Wilton has passed on to that big gig in the sky. I know Charlie, Trane, Cannonball, Paul Desmond are glad to have him among the greats.-Chuck Sovick
