Terry L. Shoup
Terry L. Shoup, 73, was born in Bloomington in April 1944, the second twin son of Fred E. and Evelyn L. (Carlson) Shoup, who preceded him in death. He passed away in his home, due to cancer, in Redlands, Calif., on Nov. 9, 2017.
Terry participated in football, wrestling and track at Bloomington High School, and was a four-year letterman in swimming at Illinois State University, where he graduated with a bachelor of science in education in 1966, and was awarded a master of science degree in 1971.
Terry was noted for his sense of humor, never having a conversation without telling at least one joke. At his recent 55th high school reunion, looking very ill, he announced it was due to a very severe case of athlete’s foot.
Terry spent 43 years as a teacher, notably at Aurora East High School, where he also coached swimming and girls’ volleyball. He also taught both grade school and PE in the San Bernardino City Unified School District, from which he retired. He was a proud member of the local teachers’ union at both schools, also serving as a union officer where he participated in contract negotiation and grievance arbitrations.
He was an unabashed liberal and atheist who was never shy about expressing his opinion on the state of politics and life in conversation and on social media, from which he got pleasure in stirring the pot. He will be missed by those on both sides of these issues.
He is survived by his first twin brother, Larry (Reta) of their Foretravel motor home, and the other twin siblings, second twin brother, Roger (Nancy), Maryville, and favorite twin sister, Judy Faulconer, Naples, Fla.; his two sons, Brian (Ann), Wilmette, and Brett (Teresa), Naperville; five grandchildren; his sailboat; and two former wives.
Terry requested that as a remembrance of him, you enjoy a glass of scotch and a good cigar. His family thanks all those who helped him and visited in his final days, and the many friends and students who expressed kind thoughts online. His body was left to science.

Good obit. Brother Roger did a great job. Need to change place of birth to Brokaw Hospital in Normal, IL. Just for those who might be doing research in the future and wonder about the discrepancy.
