Gerald G. Jackson

Gerald G. Jackson, 63, of 106 Radliff Road, Bloomington, died at 12:40 p.m. Sunday (July 26, 1987) at St. Joseph’s HospitalMedicalCenter, where he had been a patient for 12 days.

His funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at FirstBaptistChurch, Bloomington, with the Rev. Spencer Gillespie officiating. Burial will be in EastLawnMemorialGardens.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Metzler-Froelich Memorial Home.

He was born Feb. 26, 1924 in Girard, a son of Charles R. and Zora McPherson Jackson. He married Sarah Jane Hileman on Feb. 16, 1946, in Bloomington. She survives.

Other survivors include two daughters, Penelope Jill Jackson, Houston, and Cynthia Doherty, Beaverton, Oregon; two sons, Geoffrey Glenn, Seattle, and Timothy Philip, 146 Park City South, Bloomington and four grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by five brothers and two sisters.

He as a member of the FirstBaptistChurch, Bloomington, and a member of the official church board.

He was a member of Iota Lambda Sigma Fraternity; Bloomington Education Association, Illinois and National Industrial Education Association, and Illinois and American Vocational Associations.

He served as membership coordinator and on the board of directors of the Illinois Industrial Education Association. In 1978, he received the HEA award of merit. In 1979 he was Illinois recipient of the American Vocational Association award.

He was a member of Round Table 12. He was an honorary member of the Illinois Industrial Arts Club and the Bloomington High School Thespians.

He had been active in Boy Scouts and YMCA Indian Guides.

He received his bachelor of science in education degree in 1948 from IllinoisStateNormalUniversity. In 1951 he received a master of science in education from ISNU.

He was an industrial arts teacher at BloomingtonHigh School, beginning in 1948 and later became industrial cooperative coordinator of the BloomingtonAreaVocationalCenter. He also had worked as court area supervisor at StateFarmPark during the summer months for many years.

Mr. Jackson retired in 1983.
