Eugene Paul Gordon August 12, 1941 - September 13, 2017San Diego Gene died peacefully at his home in Scripps Ranch after a multi-year battle with Parkinson's disease. He leaves behind his girlfriend, Sally Schrobilgen of Dubuque, Iowa, a brother, Dave, a sister, Judy, his beloved secretary, Mary Yeomans, several cousins, and his devoted dog, Brandy. Gene was born and grew up in Claremont, CA, attended UC Riverside and Hastings Law School in SF, receiving his law degree in 1968. After passing the state bar, he joined forces with the SD City Attorney's Office where he spent his entire professional career, retiring in 2008, but continuing on as a volunteer until 2 weeks of his passing. Gene carried on a lifelong love affair with baseball and the outdoors (hiking and fishing) sparked by the 7 summers spent working in Yellowstone Park during his college years. He thoroughly enjoyed his 39 years with the City Attorney's Office and could keep people well entertained and informed as he related the details of cases he had been involved with over the years. He taught outside the Office, esp. canine cases, and often presented before the California League of Cities. He had a reputation for legal excellence and was admired by all. His enthusiasm, his love of life, his professionalism, his interest in people and history, and his genuine love and affection for animals and especially black labs will all be greatly missed. A Celebration of Life will be held on Oct. 20, 2017from 3 - 5PMat the San Diego Concourse (Golden Hall, Copper Room). Those wishing to honor Gene's memory may donate to the San Diego Humane Society.
