For years, Claremont High School math teacher Arthur Reitnouer devoted his extra time after school to helping wherever he could. He could be found on the sidelines of basketball and football games as a score-keeper, or behind the scenes directing stage crews for the school plays.

 A 26-year native of Claremont, Mr. Reitnouer died on December 27, 2005 at Claremont Manor.

A well-educated man; Mr. Reitnouer was born on January 9,1925 in New Orleans, He earned bachelor's degree at La Verne University, and received master's degrees at both Arizona State University and Cal State Los Angeles, Then, for 40 years he taught math at Claremont High and Citrus College.

During his summer vacations, Mr. Reitnouer did much traveling, and his favorite destination was the Grand Canyon. He was a lieutenant colonel of the Civil Air Patrol, where for 50 years he assisted on search and rescues and civic duties. He also was a pilot, and took off on local flights from Brackett Airport.

Mr. Reitnouer is survived by his wife, Meredith V. Reitnouer of Hesperia; by his daughter, Men Jo Herschel of Hesperia; by his son, Paul A. Reitnouer of Monrovia; by his brother, Lynn P. Reitnouer of San Marino; by his grandchildren, Kristie and Chad Jakeway of Monrovia; Danielle and Jon Maxwell of Olympia, Washington; Joanne and Matt Goldsmith of Clever, Maryland; and by his great-grandchildren, Camille Jakeway of Monrovia, Sheridynn Maxwell of Olympia, Kaylee Goldsmith of Clever, Missouri and Xander Jakeway of Monrovia.
