Jean Ann Clark (-Bird)

Mary Jeanne "Toni" Stillwell Ashmore

April 2, 1942-August 20-2019; laid to rest August 31, 2019

Shanghai Presbyterian Cemetery, Shanghai, West Virginia

The last Stilwell of a family branch that lived in Back Creek Valley from long before the Civil War has died.  Born to Jack Stilwell and Thelma Rush of Pittsburg, April 2 1942. Was christened Mary Jeanne at Shanghai Presbyterian Church and finished the lower grades at the one-room Shangai School.

Then transplanted to Texas I grew first into a career in broadcast in the early sixties, becoming known by my business name,  Toni Miller, and hosted a news and public affairs program daily on the radio and television into 1970. Intervienwing and learning from experts in diverse fields was the best  part of my education.

Thereafter, while I continued to conduct busines from a home office and remained active in civic and cultural activites, my chief interest my growing family.  I was blessed with four healthy and bright children eager to learn.  They were fine material for rearing ideal companions, which, indeed, each became.

At the improbable age of 60, I found myself marrying for a second time.  Ben Ahsmore and I treasured every day on our eleven years together before his death.  As he wished, his remains are at Arlington National Cemetery,  My sole sibling Jacqueline Neuman, also predeceased me.

My survivors include my life's most enduring joys, my daughters Mitra, Mrs. Andrew J. Roehr of Houston, Texas; Arisa, Mrs C-F David Boit of Brookline, Mass; Lyrica, Mrs.Wm.Eric Johnson of Austin, Texas; my son D.David Rush Miller; my dear  brother-in-law Richard Neuman of Austin; a Martinsburg cousin with a big Stilwell streak, Jim Butts and his family; and many other dear cousins.

I leave five delighful, accomplished grandchildren, A.Jack Roehr and William G. Roehr, Miss Darley A.C. Boit and Raif S. Boit, and Ronan D. Johnson. and am survived as well by Ben's sons Lance E.Ashmore of Centerton, Arkansas; B.H. Ashmore Jr. of Austin, Texas; and Stanley Ashmore of San Antonio, Texas

So sorry to hear about Toni's passing.  The last time I saw her and we visited together was at one of our past unions.  She was a lovely person and was always very sweet to me.  Blessings to her family and friends and all those who held her so dear.  Love, Sandi
