Carol Ann Black Duncan

After leaving High School I worked with the Jamaica Defence Force as a civilian before enlisting in 1986. Since then I have become a qualified stenowriter and had the privilege of writing at a meeting at the University of the West Indies with Mr Falloon present.

I am now a Lieutenant and the recipient of the Meritorious Medal. After over 23 years of army life I am now looking towards to retirement.

I have three incidents I would like to share and they all occurred in 3rd Form.

1. I remember preparing breakfast for a Home Economics mid term and decided to include cornmeal porridge. I brought the pot to a boil and instead of making a mixture with the meal I poured it directly into the pot making turn cornmeal. The boys in the form would not make me forget it.

2. "No eating in class" is something all Knibbite knew. However when My friend Charmaine brought some tamarind to school and gave me I promptly placed them underneath my desk. When the class started I began to eat discreetly not thinking at all that I was being observed. About midway in the class I heard Dalton Brown calling to Miss, however being in a world of my own I paid no attention still eating. It was only after he was acknowledged and he said "Miss, this one eating in the class" pointing in my direction, that I realized that I had been busted. It cost me my only detention and 300 lines. Dalton A owe yuh one!

3. Receiving 5% on the End of Year Physics Exam and that only for spelling my name correctly. A number of us got that grade and was the Third Form Cordinator, Mr Tracey, upset! It confirmed there and then that the Science world was not for me.
