Freddy moved fulltime to Shelter Island, NY in 1968, starting his own real estate business. Married to Hannah Ryam Steuart, he is survived by two children, two brothers, and two sisters. Freddy was a St. Mary's Episcopal Church vestry member, a Shelter Island Yacht Club member, an active member of Shelter Island fire departments, a Benevolent Association officer, and a Fire Police lieutenant. Assisting family and friends was his way; "his gentle soul will be greatly missed by all he touched".

I met Fred at Mt Hebron. He was a RAM a frendship and sports club. His senior class picture has the phrase: "At a party he mixes well". Ed his Dad did not like the idea. However it was true. Freddy could talk and be friends with anyone. He was a music trendsetter and would invite some of us to his house on Inwood and we would Jam out. His Dad was also a Jazz buff and at times came into the round music room to join us. We learned a lot about jazz and listened to songs like "Flying home" and other great jazz classics. Fred was a Sober Six senior officer. Six of us who stood together as friends and suporters. I believe we all benifited greatly knowing Fred. Don Herzig and Fred were best of friends. Freddy went to NYU and we would meet in the Village and bar hop. We loved the Jazz bars and later ended up at the Metropol Cafe in Harold Square. Mile long bar six deep with Jazz behind the bar until 3:00 AM. I remember Freddy well, miss his humor, wit and honesty. Glad I can still lift a pint or two in salute of Fred Dinkle the man with the twinkle.
