I met Don at Mount Hebron; He and his brother, Jon, became like my brothers. I had the good fortune to know the whole family. We often went to his father's butcher shop in Clifton and pigged out, then hopped in the Olds '98 convertable to cruise the streets. Once when sitting on the rear deck of the '98, John Cushman came within inches of us and I threw my Awful Awful on the hood of his new ford his daddy bought him. He never spoke to me again until years later. You might remember when Don scored five touchdowns in the Orange HS game. He subsequently had letters from five Ivey League colleges. He went to E Tennessee State and later enlisted in the Army and was stationed in Germany. Don was a hard worker and was enployed at CIT prior to opening his Deli in Watchung Plaza. He married Nancy and they have a son named Donald. He had one of the first heart transplants and survied about five years. I visited him after the tranplant and we went to Clifton to his favorite pizza place. I'm proud to say I loved him and miss him very much. He was a man's man.
