A few weeks ago was our 10 years graduation anniversary.
So have any type of plans for a reunion been made yet?

Let just pick a park...Each bring something to Grill and just kick back with sports and stuff. I think its our first reunion. Plus if people come from out of town they may have family in town. It could just be a one day thing with music and stuff.

So, Let's pick a date and a park and call it a day!! Thats just what I think.

PS William Land has activities like golfing, basketball, baseball diamonds, swimming stuff for the kids.

I'm for the park idea. But it has to be soon. Before the weather changes.

Hi guys,

I had been looking into venues and whatnot (and believe me, that was not an easy task)...the park idea sounds great and yes, it would have to be done soon. However, for those that live out of town, would the timing to be too soon? If we did the park thing, August might be a good month before school started (for those with kids) or even September.

For the particular venue that I found, by far the cheapest, is at the Holiday Inn Capitol Plaza off of J St in downtown Sac. I spoke to the event coordinator there just yesterday and I gave her tentative dates for the Thanksgiving weekend but it wouldn't have worked out anyway since it is booked.

I'm hoping more people voice their opinion about where they'd like the reunion to be held ASAP especially if we are doing the park thing. The park would essentially be the easiest to plan!

Can everyone pass the word around to have people do the class reunion survey and/or post their ideas/concerns on the message forum? That way, we can get an idea of what everyone wants and get things going!

Incase people have forgotten, we live in Sacramento where it gets to be 110 degrees. If we do it soon it cannot be at a park. It's way too hot. And in August? The worst summer weather ever. Had we had it in June the park would've been fine, but not this time of year. Any more suggestions?

Thank you ALL for all of your hard work in trying to bring this together:) Even if it was just the five of us, we'd have a great time! LOL I really like the ideas that minimize our upfront cost (hard enough trying to get a response from the masses, with everyone's busy schedules)....based on the response I've gotten and on the survey...
LET'S GO AHEAD NOW AND SAY THIS WILL BE IN NOVEMBER; This way, we can start marking our calendars. I'll get some date surveys going. We can now start getting more specific about venues/events.

I'm essentially ok with any date in November but trying to find availability for a venue on the Thanksgiving weekend at a low, low cost is limited as I found out while doing some calling around last week. Either the venue was available but with a high room rental fee or it was booked or the place was closed for that particular weekend.

If we plan on doing the one night traditional event, we'll have to consider room rental fee, catering, decor, DJ, etc. As I posted earlier, I did find one place downtown that seems like it might work. I didn't get a chance to post the actual details earlier since I was doing the post at work and should've been working instead of dawdling on the Internet!

The room rental fee is waived (and that's $1100 and up) if we do catering with them. There is a set up fee of $240 that cannot be waived. The food consists of either a plate or buffet style. It ranges from $40 to $60 and includes tip. But it is not available during the Thanksgiving weekend and I didn't ask about the other weekends in November although I can do that tomorrow just to get an idea of availability.

I've only checked out one community center but, it is closed for the Thanksgiving weekend and the room rental fee was a little too high.

If anyone knows of any cheaper places, that would be great. The cheaper, the better, don't you think?

How about Clunie Clubhouse at McKinley Park. It's a smallish venue but I've been to a party there that had room for caterers, plenty of tables & chairs, and a DJ. And, if it's nice out, there's a patio outside.

Also, unless we get some kind of indication about willingness to fund this thing, we may have to look at something more "downscale" such as meeting up at a restaurant or the picnic thing. (By "downscale," I simply mean smaller in scale as far as traditional planning)

I'm liking the idea about the McClunie clubhouse as well as the restaurant idea!

clunie is affordable....I think we should have it right before or after thanksgiving so folks can get out here...Plus we can bring our children if its laid back

I'll see if Clunie is available.

I like the Saturday after Thanksgiving because for people like me (way in GA) tickets to Sac are VERY expensive (like $300) so to fly out twice in one month is rather difficult.

Assuming its available....We will need to see how many hours. I am sure there is a minimum and if we want a DJ. Will we bring the food or have it done. All of this will affect ticket costs. We should probably get a head count even if its small and have surveys for some of these things before we lock it all down.

AND if all else fails we can try doing a night light Hawaiian theme (in someones backyard). I just bought a home with a huge backyard. I'm sure there has to be others. Just a thought (I haven't cleared it with my husband yet). I'm thinking the restaurant would be too impersonal.

Clunie is already booked that night but is free Sunday the 30th. If someone wants to book it, the permits are here: http://www.cityofsacramento.org/parksandrecreation/parks/permits/index.html

My sister works for the City of Sacramento and when I mentioned that we were looking into Clunie, she said that was a good place to do it (she had her work Christmas party there). Plus, she knows some of the facilities managers for several of the community centers and so, I asked her if she can hook it up for us. =) She wasn't too sure about it but I have a good feeling about it. I'll let you guys know the outcome soon.

As for the Hawaiian theme, I love that idea! Wherever we do it, that sounds like a great idea. I went to Hawaii last summer and just fell in love with it!
