In Memory

Simone Burket (Class Of '78)

Simone graduated with the class of 1978, however many of you will remember her as a warm, fun-loving fellow Chamberlain Chief.  Several days after Christmas, Simone took her own life. While she did have many friends, the challenges of everyday life must have seemed a bit overwhelming. Simone will be missed by all who knew her and all of her fellow classmates from Chamberlain High School.

May she rest in peace.

Life
Okay, here goes .. now I'm not nearly as shy as I used to be, okay? I was married for 14 years to my high school sweetheart, Kurt Edwards c/o '77. We did not have children TOGETHER (not by my choice) and we divorced in 1997. I met the next "love-of-my-life" I suppose you would say, at the Florida Highway Patrol. He passed away July 17, 2006 right in front of my eyes. I've never been to any of my reunions and really hope that we have one next year! I'm cuter than ever (told you I wasn't shy anymore) .. and "Life" has taught me so much. I have "worked" since I was 15 and had to have a permit from school .. too funny! I never wanted to go to college because I didn't believe that it was necessary in order to meet my goal in life .. to be the best wife and the best mother. Should've listed to my Daddy! I've been everything from a bank teller, an airline reservation agent, the Assistant to the Mayor's Secretary when Bob Martinez was in office (okay .. y'all are JUST as old as I am!!) I worked for Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office as a secretary and also .. ready for this one .. a Reserve Deputy. A regular Annie Oakley. As always, I expected nothing less than perfect out of myself and was the only female in my class to shoot "Master." I attempted to become a State Trooper but my 10-year-long divorce proceedings prevented me from achieving my goal. During the past year I have just been taking one day at a time and trying to find myself again. My life has not been easy but I wouldn't trade the lessons that God has taught me for anything. I'm not actively in touch with anyone from my class but would like to see and/or talk to a few of you. Feel free to email and ask me whatever. This "classmates.com" thing is all new to me. I've never done online dating (and don't plan to). Basically I'm still me .. just a little more outgoing and fun (I think). Lots of great memories from high school and especially Chiefettes. Oh yeah, I still remember the march!!

Looking forward to hearing from some of you .. not ALL, but most!! Right now .. until my "life" settles back down .. I work at Citrus Park Mall in a very classy women's clothing store called Chico's. I just finished a "temp" job with a downtown law firm and found that I have more interest in uniforms than in attorneys .. anyone want to prove me wrong?

Take care to all of you .. looking forward to seeing what "this" brings to my path.

Simone

Although I did not know Simone that well, she was always very sweet to all those around her. She was very shy and beautiful and I am sure she will be missed by her family and friends. Always sorry to hear about classmates passing but these circumstances are particularly difficult.

I remember her well. What a tragedy. She was a beautiful girl, both inside and out.
