Smith, Berton C. EAST GREENBUSH Berton C. Smith Jr., 70, of East Greenbush, passed away peacefully with his loving family by his side on Wednesday, November 18, 2009 at Samaritan Hospital in Troy. He was born in Amsterdam, N.Y. and worked for New York State for over 37 years, retiring in 1994 from the Thruway Authority. Survivors include his devoted and loving wife of 43 years, Patricia L. (Mullen) Smith of East Greenbush; two sons, Stephen (Robin) Smith and Scott (Amy) Smith, all of Clifton Park; his loving grandchildren, Stephen Thomas, Kayla Hope, and Rhianna Grace; sister, Holly Bearor of Schroon Lake and several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents, Berton C. and Mildred M. (Strohecker) Smith; and brother, James R. Smith. Papa Bert loved spending time with his family, especially their family vacations in Maine and N.J. and attending his grandkids sporting and school events. He also enjoyed several trips to the Caribbean and Bahamas with his wife. Bert's dogs were always close to his heart. Friends and relatives are invited to attend his funeral 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 22, 2009 at the Rockefeller Funeral Home, 165 Columbia Tpk., Rensselaer. Friends may call at the funeral home from 2-5 p.m. prior to the service. Interment will be at the convenience of the family. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the critical care unit at Samaritan Hospital for the care and support given to Bert and his family. The family also requests that those who wish to remember Bert to make memorial contributions to Hudson Mohawk Humane Society 1 Oakland Ave. Menands, NY 12204 in his memory.
