Robert Alan Carney,  Ballston Lake, N.Y. passed away on February 22, 2012 after a short illness. Born in East Meadow, Long Island on August 14, 1940, Bob was the youngest son of Helene and Francis M. Carney. He lived with his family in Troy until he graduated from Troy High School in 1958. He married his wife Rosemary (O'Brien) Carney in 1966 and they enjoyed a long life full of adventures, laughter, friends and family. Bob was ready for sports, adventures and fun. He loved traveling with his wife Rosemary and they took many trips around the world. Many happy summers were spent playing rugby, softball, kayaking, and biking. Bob always looked forward to his annual bicycle ride to Lake George with his good friend Dan Ward and he was a familiar site walking the streets of Ballston Lake. Bob was devoted to his six grandchildren and enjoyed volunteering at Stevens School in his grandchildren's classes; and as everyone who ever saw him on a Sunday afternoon knew, Bob was a lifelong (and long suffering) fan of the NY Giants; we're all happy that he was able to see his Giants win the Super Bowl one more time. In his early years, Bob was in the U.S. Marine Corps (1958-62). After discharge, Bob returned to the Capital Region and worked at Williams Press in Menands and as a machinist for the General Electric Company in Schenectady (1965-83). Bob found his true calling in 1982, when he and his wife Rosemary opened Carney's Tavern in Ballston Lake. It was his lifelong dream to own a tavern and for the past 30 years, he has worked with his family to transform the building into a hub in the Ballston Lake community. Without a doubt, he fulfilled his dream and created a tavern that is full of friendship, laughter and camaraderie. It has become a second home to many and he considered their loyal employees and customers as friends. His presence there will be sorely missed. He also served as the current president and was longtime member of the Saratoga, Schenectady and Warren County Restaurant and Tavern Association. Bob is survived by his wife, Rosemary (O'Brien) Carney; his son, Christopher (Tamara) Carney; daughter Kathryn (Joseph) Stuhlman; daughter Jennifer (Randall) Craig and son, Alexander Carney. His grandchildren, who were adored by him, include Dylan and Connor Craig; Kevin and Emily Carney; and Jack and Tessa Stuhlman. He is also survived by his brother, Frank R. (Mary) Carney of Marion, Ohio; his sister, Audrey Carney of Brunswick, N.Y.; and many loving nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his brother, Howard Carney of Nassau, N.Y., and his nephew, Ronald Carney of Clifton Park, N.Y. His family would like thank Dr. Stephen Grant and the staff at Ellis Hospital for their compassion and care. They would also like to thank the many wonderful friends and Carney's customers that were a part of Bob's life; they were all truly a joy to Bob and they are a comfort to his family now. Calling hours will be held at the Glenville Funeral Home, 9 Glenridge Road, Glenville, on Saturday, February 25 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. A funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. at the Glenville Funeral Home. A private interment will be held at the Saratoga National Cemetery. Friends and family are welcome to join the Carney family for an Irish Wake after the calling hours at Carney's Tavern at 3:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Danny G.
