Moved back to Virginia after I saw Chicago turning into an urban jungle. Henry Hudson died, succeeded by Ava, a border collie. Doing a bit of lawyering; mostly taking cases representing dogs accused of being dangerous, pro bono (a dog in trouble usually has no bank account). Capital cases; I love to win for them, then spring my clients out of incarceration from the county/city pound, and celebrate with them at McDonalds, where they get as many hamburgers they can eat. Animal control doesn't much like me.
Congratulations for surviving to your ripe old age. I'm 81 also. Living well.
Happy Birthday. Thought you were 80 this year, like the rest of us. You must have skipped kindergarten. All well here in the south and in Chicago, except Pittsylvania County just had a triple murder that has outraged the population, was on national media, when the police failed to shoot the murderer because he is a white boy; and when a black boy in the unsimilar circumstances --i.e. having committed no crime--would have been routinely riddled with bullets. The white teenager killed: his mother, his sister, his sister's baby (1 yr old) and the family dog. Most citizens are outraged, after watching the video of the white boy chasing a deputy running from the teenager, that the deputy didn't shoot the kid. Racism; they just don't shoot white people who murder; only black people, for no reason. Hope your community is more benign that what we're being exposed to in the south.
Dividing time between Chatham, VA and. Chicago IL. Still involved in litigation. Saw Peter Denton a while ago, when the psych ward at UC North Carolina contacted me, looking for temporary housing for him. his wife had him removed from the marital home. Peter he has a mental disorder and I have since been warned by health care professionals to steer clear of him. My dog of 11 years was very ill, and was in hospital for a week. Much better now and home. Martin Haley and his wife live in a lovely house just a few blocks away from where I live in Chicago; had dinner with them a few night ago. Haven't been traveling abroad in the past few years: Chicago has everything that I encountered in the exotic places to which I travelled over the years (except the tropical climate), and including possible lethal dangers (tho instead of tsunamis--I was in Sri Lanka when that one happened-- but Chicago has drug gangs, might call them urban tsunamis when they roll into a neighborhood. Recently revisited my law school where S. Ct Justice Elena Kagan had been invited for a sit-down interview on the workings of the Supreme Court. A lovely woman, we are lucky to have her on the Court. Maybe she and Ruth Ginsburg live forever!
