Joseph Walsh (M. D. )

Joseph Walsh (M. D. )

Class baby, eminent physician.  Our classmate, Joe Walsh, died on Tuesday, August 22, 2017, after a battle with ALS, Lou Gehrig's disease.  According to his sister, Martha, the progress of the disease may have been accelerated by Joe's exposure to Agent Orange while he served in Viet Nam. He lived for only about a year after the diagnosis of ALS.

A list of Joe's achievements would more than fill this page.  He has received global recognition for his work in the fields of ophthalmology and retinal issues.

His obituary appears in the August 25 edition of the New York Times. A future obituary will appear in the local (Troy) paper soon.

Joe Walsh was one of my closest friends during our years at Troy High School.  I was so proud of his later accomplishments in medicine.  It's sad to think of him no longer with us.

Joe gone, my gosh!  Though I haven't seen him since we graduated, I have such fond memories of him, of being coeditors of the Dardanian, of going to parties and dances with him, such light fun always!  A wonderful person and friend.

Always a gentleman, I have never forgotten that Joe took me to the high school prom, even though he had a serious injury to his foot.
