MRS. JEANNE CASAZZA JARRETT - CHEMISTRY FACULTY AT THS
Troy, NY - Jeanne Olive Butler, daughter of the late Olive Film Butler and LeRoy Butler of Troy, New York, died on February 7th 2013, at the age of 94, in East Greenbush, New York of natural causes. Jeanne was born January 25, 1919, at 1036 Spring Avenue, Brunswick, New York. Jeanne, the former wife of the deceased Kenneth Jarrett and widow of William J. Casazza, Sr., is survived by her son, Andrew H. P. Swift, Jr.; her daughter, Sally Swift Joyce; her stepsons William J. Casazza Jr., Peter Casazza, and George Casazza; her granddaughters, Emily Joyce Oakes, Stacey Joyce Wright, Lisa Joyce, Carolyn Swift Kuhnel and Karen Swift Eagleston; her brother Tod F. Butler; her niece June Butler Ross; her nephew, Tod F. Butler, Jr.; as well as many great-grandchildren. Jeanne was a graduate of Emma Willard School and Russell Sage College where she was a chemistry lab assistant and Senior Class President. She was a spirited volunteer, serving as a 50 year member of the Samaritan Hospital Auxiliary, a Golden Emeritus member of the Junior League of Troy, and Volunteer Coordinator and Honorary Life Member of the Brunswick Historical Society. She was also a member of the New York State Retired Teachers Association, and the National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame in Saratoga Springs. During the years of World War II, Jeanne served in the U.S. Army Aircraft Warning Service in Windham, New York and the American Red Cross in Fort Worth, Texas. Jeanne began her career as a science teacher at Windham Ashland Jewett School in Windham, New York. She was subsequently employed as a chemist at Republic Steel Corporation, in Troy, a trunk layout supervisor with the New York Telephone Company in Albany and Utica, and a chemistry teacher at Troy High School. Working with high school students was a passion in her life and she provided her students “an unforgettable learning experience”, according to a Troy High School newspaper article about her titled Graduate Recalls Great Teacher. In keeping with her love of learning and her giving spirit, she requested her body be donated to the Albany Medical College Anatomical Gift Program. A Memorial Service will be held at the Brunswick Church, 42 White Church Lane, Brunswick, New York, on March 9, 2013, at 1 PM with a reception to follow the service – contact phone number 518-279-3792.
MS. EILEEN T. ROURKE - BUSINESS FACULTY AT THS
TROY - Eileen T. Rourke, 87, former North Lake Avenue resident, died Friday, February 08, 2013 at the Eddy Heritage House. Born in Troy, she was the daughter of the late Charles J. Rourke and Ella M. Hickey Rourke. Raised and educated in Troy, she was a graduate of Catholic Central High School. She received a bachelor's degree in education from The College of Saint Rose and a master's degree from SUNY Albany. Miss Rourke taught business for many years at Troy High School and evening classes at Maria College in Albany. She was a dedicated, competent educator, who placed her students as her top priority, and they thrived under her skill, care and concern. Friends are invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial on Monday, February 11, 2013 at 9:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Victory Church, Troy. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery, Troy. There are no calling hours.
