David Garland Young

Lubbock

David Garland Young, 63, of Lubbock and formerly of Abilene and Denton died Sunday, October 7, 2012 after suffering a stroke earlier in the week. He was surrounded by family and loved ones.

David was known as a stained glass designer, creating countless beautiful pieces of art for churches, homes and business in Abilene and throughout Texas. In 1996, David was featured in the Abilene Reporter News for his work restoring the stained glass dome at Kent County State Bank in Jayton.

He was loved for his imaginative, quirky and good-natured sense of humor.

David was a 1968 graduate of Cooper High and a 1973 graduate of Abilene Christian College. He also took graduate classes in art at North Texas State University.

David is survived by his son, Adam Young and Adam's wife Glenys Young of Lubbock; his sister, Denise Hufstedler, and her husband Duane Hufstedler; a nephew, Geoffrey Hufstedler, and a niece, Lauren Johnson and her husband Jeremiah Johnson all of Abilene.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Garland and Mary Young of Abilene.

A celebration of his life is planned for 1 p.m. Saturday, October 20 at Brook Hollow Christian Church at 2310 South Willis St. in Abilene.

His family suggests donations to the Salvation Army in his honor.

So sorry to hear of David's passing.  I had known David since our Bonham elem. school days and always knew him to be a nice guy with a quick wit and subtle sense of humor.  His artwork will outlast all of us.  Condolences to his family.
