Cathy Springer Leavell, a native Texan, died Tuesday, March 14, 2006 at her home in Abilene after a lengthy illness. With Mr. Rusty McLen, Dr. Joe Hodges and Dr. Malcom Coco officiating, family and friends are welcome at a graveside service at 10:00 a.m. on Friday March 17, 2006 at Elmwood Memorial Park, followed by a memorial service at 11:00 a.m. at Hillcrest Church of Christ, all under the direction of The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road. There will be a visitation at the funeral home from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 16.
Cathy was born June 4, 1953 in Merkel to Wildon Mac and Norma "Sug" Hodge Springer. Her father preceded her in death in 2000. She attended school in Abilene, and graduated from Cooper High School in 1971, followed by a degree in Home Economics from Abilene Christian College (now Abilene Christian University) in 1975. Cathy married Dr. Mark Leavell on June 18, 1988 in Snyder, Texas and the couple made Abilene their home, where they own and operate Radford Hills Animal Clinic. In addition to her work with the clinic, she was a former member and now a sponsor of the GATA social club at ACU, as well as former president of ACU Parents Association. Cathy was a member of Hillcrest Church of Christ.
Pallbearers will be Mark Eberhardt, Randy Springer, Sonny Goode, Edward Hodge, Grant Cunningham and Dr. Joseph Crumbliss.
Survivors include: her husband, Dr. Mark Leavell of Abilene, a son, Mac Leavell of Abilene; two daughters, M'Lea Leavell of Dallas and M'chelle Leavell Reedy and husband Jeremy of Abilene; two brothers, Tommy Springer and wife Vicki of Abilene and Terry Springer and wife Debbie of Dallas; her mother, Norma "Sug" Springer of Abilene; her mother-in-law, Elizabeth Leavell of Abilene as well as several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
