Steven Duncan Vincent

Cambridge, MA

A memorial service for Dr. Steven Duncan Vincent, 58, of Cambridge, Massachusetts, will be held graveside only at Elmwood Memorial Park in the Garden of Hope. The service will be held Friday afternoon, May 10, at 3:00.

Steven was born June 22, 1953, in Riverside, California. He lived for a number of years in Abilene, and also lived abroad with his family in England and the Philippine Islands as his father served in the United States Air Force. While living in Abilene, he was a member of John Knox Presbyterian Church. He graduated from Cooper High School.

He attended Hardin-Simmons University for two years, completing his undergraduate degree at Texas Christian University. He completed his Master of Fine Arts degree at the University of Oklahoma, a year of professional training at The Drama Studio in London, and his Doctor of Philosophy degree at the University of Kansas. He worked as a professional actor in New York, the Southwest, and the Midwest for many years. He also taught and directed in both graduate and undergraduate programs at several colleges and universities including the University of Oklahoma, the University of Tennessee, and Simpson College in Iowa. His scholarly focus was Shakespearean studies.

Dr. Vincent is preceded in death by his parents, Dr. Gerald Owen Vincent and his mother, Gwendolen M. Vincent. He is survived by his sister, Sandy Freeman and her husband Clay Freeman of Abilene, and their daughter, Katharine Freeman and her fiance Bryson Reno of San Antonio; his cousins, Margaret Ann Brady and Catherine Brady and their families in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and his cousin Kevin Brady and his wife Carol of Lyons, Colorado, as well as a number of other cousins in Iowa and New England.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, gifts in Steven's memory might be made to Meals on Wheels.
