JAMES (J.C.) CLINTON WARD

With the tenderness of feelings, we announce James Clinton Ward of Abilene passed away Saturday, January 30, 2021 at 12:45am. He was surrounded with love from close family by his bedside during the time leading to his passing. An intimate family memorial service will be held February 27, 2021 with an invitation for extended family and close friends to join virtually.

James was born April 25, 1953 in Abilene, TX to Marie Whitby-Ward and Shelly Ward Sr. James (aka JC) received his primary education from Abilene public schools beginning at Carter G. Woodson Elementary and graduated from Cooper High School in 1971. After high school he attended Texas Tech University for a period before he eventually joined the United States Air Force (USAF). During his time in the military, James lived and worked across the country in 5 states as well internationally in several countries including Vietnam, Philippines, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, Portugal (Azores), and South Korea. He served his country honorably for 20 years before retiring in 1992. After retirement from the USAF, James started a second round of careers starting with Holiday Inn and ending with Texas Health & Human Services Commissions before retiring on May 20th, 2016 after 24 years.

James had a robust sense of humor, willingness to be honest and a talent with mechanics. James loved to cook, especially barbeque for family and friends. He enjoyed traveling and technology while in his spare time he immersed himself into watching a range of movies and tinkered with his cars, motorcycle and Sling Shot.

James was preceded in death by both parents, daughter, Rosalind Ward, and sister Andrewlyn Lanier.

Left to cherish his memories and extend his legacy are: wife, Teresita Ward of Abilene; daughter, Jeanette Ward of Phoenix, AZ; son James Ward and wife Jennifer of Corona, CA; daughter Tarra Ward of Lewisville, TX; son Terrence Ward of Denton, TX; sisters: Jennabeth Ward of Alameda, CA, Marilyn Cole of Lubbock, TX; brother Shelly Ward Jr. of St. Louis, MO; as well as grandchildren Janessa, Jaylon, Keona, Cyan, Jocelynn, Carter, and Jaxon and 4 great-grandchildren Paul, Persia, Jream, and Jett and a host of extended family and many friends.
