12/06/08 08:36 PM #27     April Tow (Stepp) If Mark can't join our group and put in his own messages then I just don't want to read them. ha ha ha We do a few different things. We always adopt a family at the kid's school and let them do the shopping for that family. This year our church is doing a lot of things, but my favorite is slippers for children at Egelston Childrens Hospital. We are all buying up a lot of slippers in different sizes for the children who are in the hospital there. Also, the Family Resource Center is doing it's yearly Mother/Daughter Tea where everyone brings a new unwrapped toy for children who are displaced during the holidays. I've never done this because my children are so shy and I don't know how they would do in this situation, but a friend of mine took her children to a very poor part of Kentucky and they took presents and food to these families so that their children could appreciate how blessed they are to have what they have. There are so many things we can do that doesn't even require any money. I know the Calhoun Women's Club goes to the Boys and Girls Club and plays video games and gives the girls mani's and pedi's. If you've got the time to spare there are so many little things that can be done that mean so much to people. I hope everyone is enjoying the holidays. I love this time of year. I literally cry when I hear my children singing Christmas carols or when they sit in Santa's lap every year. I'm an ole' sap! You never get these years back so I just savor everything! 12/08/08 09:44 AM #28     Dina Boswell (Gulledge) I took my kids on the Kentucky Mission a couple of years ago ....for the same experience. They are still talking about it. It's such a sadness to see these poverty stricken towns in our homeland. Families rooted in an industry of mining, quickly wasting away. The humble spirits of those people will always stir my willingness and ability to share with those that are less fortunate than me. It was amazing to "see" their Christmas joy.

I haven’t been able to check it lately, but all I can say is that I’m pretty impressed. It doesn’t take much to make a difference in someone’s life, and it looks like we have some caring folks.
