Rev. Robert W. Rhyne, 86, of Silver Creek, died Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2009.
Rev. Rhyne was born Aug. 18, 1922, in Floyd County, a son of the late Horace and Marie Tarvin Rhyne.
He was an Army veteran of World War II, member of the Friendship Baptist Church, and was a retired Minister and school teacher. Rev. Rhyne was the pastor at Friendship Baptist Church in Cartersville for 21 years and later served the church as visiting pastor to the elderly for 10 years. Prior to his service in Cartersville he served as minister of the Unity Baptist Church in Plainville and had served as interim minister at several area churches over the years. He retired from teaching in the Bartow County School System in 1988. He enjoyed cattle farming and hunting.
Preceded in death by his first wife, Evelyn, Rev. Rhyne is survived by his wife, Faye Pope Rhyne; his daughter and son-in-law, Judy and John McPherson of Silver Creek; two granddaughters, Ashlyn and Moira; special daughter and son-in-law, Chastity and Chris Benson of Cartersville; and a number of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Gilbert and Elbert Rhyne.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 9, 2009, from the Friendship Baptist Church, in Cartersville, with Rev. Rueben Smith and Rev. Norman Money officiating. Interment followed in the East View cemetery in Rome.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the general expense fund of the Friendship Baptist Church, 606 Cassville Road, Cartersville, GA 30120.
Pallbearers were Johnny and Tommy Rhyne, Rodney Pope, Jonathan Arrington, Jake, Bobby and Christopher Rhyne.
Owen Funeral Home, 12 Collins Drive, Cartersville, was in charge of the arrangements.
