Hi All-
Short version of the past 25 yrs. After a pulling an 8-yr stint at UOG (and two daughters later) I finally finished my degree in Communications. Not long after, I landed a radio news job with K57 (working under my icon, Jon Anderson!) Did that for three yrs, then moved over to KUAM and worked as reporter/anchor for about 4 yrs. It was an exciting period in my life, meeting the likes of world and local leaders, celebrities and people of general influence. It was also during this time I saw our island change in some not so postive ways. As many of you can attest, things had changed quite a bit from the mid 80s to the mid 90s, and the good ole days weren't all that good for many folks on the island. Then, during the '98 election year, a now-former-Governor decided to partner up with the "new" owners-of-the-aforementioned-TV station-and-owners-of-half-the-island, and get rid of many of the journalists with an opinion. SOO my career in media ended... HOWEVER, my career in marketing began! (Wooo hooo!) I enjoyed a very happy seven year tenure with Citibank-Guam as its Marketing Communications Manager. Citibank was a fantastic learning experience. I was fortunate to meet and work with some of the smartest people I had ever had the pleasure of meeting, from both Guam and countries all over the world. Citi also afforded me the opportunity to travel, so that was another benefit that later influenced my decision to leave Guam and move to states.
Today - San Diego has been "home" now since 2004. Now, I'm neighbors with my HS best friends, Elvie Lasalita and Ronnica Sablan Corral! Go figure! I'm the MarCom Manager for a fantastic company called, SonTek/YSI, which makes scientific equipment that measures the speed/depth of water. So (indirectly) I'm helping the world be a better place for all (yippee!)
My oldest daughter, Deena, is 22. My middle girl, Tanya, is 20 and my youngest girl, Kara (short for Karabao) is 12. The older two attend college here in SD and Kara is a 7th-grader at the SD School of Creative and Performing Arts.
That's pretty much it. I'm looking forward to catching up with old (er, I mean "previous") classmates from Oceanview! We're going to try to round up as many '85-ers as possible so we can possibly have a side-bar activity during the multi-class renunion in 2010. Drop me a note if you're interested in participating, or you just want to catch up!
