Hey Ronnie - You were always such a stand-up guy!!  I remember vividly around 1968, coming home from         school in El Paso. My Mom broke the news to me, that you had died in a climbing accident in Colorado.

I remember our Soph Basketball under Coach Bobby Gibbs. We had a great group of guys on that team!                 I bet that you and Charlie Nassif are up there "Shootin Hoops" together. God Bless you, my friend!                      May you rest in peace. Jim W.

April 22, 1966

Joe Fullop, Richard Allen Cole, and Ronald Fjeseth were on the standard route and reached the summit at 6:30 p.m. when frostbite began to take effect. Being too cold to put on crampons, they descended in the dark and Cole fell, causing the rest of the roped party to fall as well. Fullop was the only one conscious, and hiked down to Maroon Lake to summon help. The deceased bodies of Cole and Fjeseth were later recovered.

Ron was the first to get me interested in rock climbing.  I remember hiking all over the Sandias and trying my first rappel and belay with Ron on the Thumb.  I was shocked by his death and never went rock climbing again.  At least he died doing what he loved most.
