Louis Pecastaing (B. )

Louis Pecastaing (B. )

Louis Bernard Pecastaing, 79, of Albuquerque, NM, passed away on September 6th, 2025, leaving a legacy of love, creativity, and laughter.

Louis was born on October 17, 1945, in Monroe, Louisiana, to Cyrille and Grace Pecastaing. Shortly after that, the family moved to Albuqueruqe, where they lived for a time in the San Felipe Church in Old Town. He grew up in Albuquerque, and later graduated from Highland High School in 1965. He received a fine arts degree and minor in biology from UNM in 1969; he then moved to California to pursue his career in art. His creative endeavors continued to grow when he went on the road as a sideshow painter for carnivals traveling across the country. Returning to New Mexico, where he lived the rest of his life, his artistic career flourished as he expanded into painting everything from signs, large murals, overpasses, and nearly every high school gymnasium floor in the state, including the PIT.

The last 40 years, he spent working hard and playing harder, enjoying countless trips and adventures with his sweetie, Mary Ann, and family.

A true modern day renaissance man, Lou was always in motion, crafting, tinkering, working, creating and loving family. He even learned to snowboard in his 50’s and continued into his 70’s. From raising horses, to welding, to PTA president and soccer coach, he was always involved with family and never missed an opportunity to help his fellow man. His big beautiful family and his faith in Jesus were the most important things in his life.

Louie is preceded in death by his parents, Cyrille and Grace Pecastaing, and his brother Jimmy. He is survived by his loving wife Mary Ann, his children, Nicholas (Erin) and Gabriel (Skye), from his marriage to Mary Schwappach; stepchildren, Kelly (James) Mason and Kevin (Stephanie) Lange, whom he loved as his own. He was a proud grandfather to Rumi, Xavier, William, Zachary (Grace), Kathryn, Scarlett, and great grandfather to Elizabeth. He is also survived by his brothers, Francis and Michael, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Sad to hear the news.  You were the last of the Emerson crazy crew. (Daryl Proctor, David Blain, and Joe Teresi)    Here is to the memories.

I was sad to learn of Louis passing. He was always kind , fun and respectful of all, especially of bad art work.
At his memorial service there was Darrell Proctorin in living color with a fine mustache, Erv Klink, Marilyn Stanton, various wives, but especially the spouses of David blaine and Ray Isengard. We all sat in a row Representing HHS. Missing You Louis!

I was deeply saddened to read about Louie's passing.  Somehow, we were friends all through high school probably because we were in some of the same classes.  We reconnected at our HHS class of 65 party and had a long visit there.  I was so impressed with his career and his love for painting carousel animals.  I was sure looking forward to seeing him again this year.  When he wasn't there, I was concerned.  Nice to hear that he had some HHS friends at his memorial service.  Thank you, David Gorgone, for posting that.
