Michael Danoff (L. )

Michael L. Danoff

Michael L. Danoff passed away unexpectedly at age 73 at his home on September 15, 2021. Mike was born in 1947 and raised in Albuquerque, NM. After graduating from Highland High School, class of 1965, he attended the University of Arizona on a track scholarship and was active in ROTC. Mike proudly served as an Officer in the United States Army and attended law school at the University of New Mexico. He graduated law school in 1972 and shortly thereafter opened a private civil litigation practice, Michael Danoff and Associates, and served as an esteemed attorney in Albuquerque for over 49 years. Mike was a lifelong fan and supporter of Lobo Athletics and coached youth basketball for over 25 years. Mike had many passions outside of work and was an avid swimmer, golfer and loved spending time with his wife Margo going to concerts, sporting events, cruises, and spending time in his favorite city Las Vegas, NV. He always looked forward to his annual golf trip to Pebble Beach, CA with his sons and spending time with his granddaughter Thea. His most prized possession was time with family and friends.

Mike was proud board member of the Great Southwest Track and Field Association and New Mexico Bowl and served as a previous board member of Congregation Albert and was regional Youth Group Advisor.

He is preceded by his parents, Hyman and Bertha Danoff of Albuquerque. Mike is survived by his wife of 52 years, Margo (Kawin) Danoff and his 3 sons: Troy Danoff and Celeste Peterson of Phoenix, AZ; Brett and Lesli Danoff of Albuquerque; Ryan, Amy and Thea Danoff of Albuquerque; and his brother Robert, Eve Danoff and their family of Paradise Valley, AZ.

Saddened to hear about MikeÅ› passing. I knew him from Monte Vista through HHS. He was a bright, friendly guy; one of the top students. I imagine he was an excellent attorney. My condolences to his family.

Mike was a good friend in high school ... a tall, lanky kid who loved sports.  At the '65 reunion, I think I spent more time talking with Mike than anyone else.  Of course, talking with Mike was always easy to do, and I live in Las Vegas, so we had a lot to talk about.  I'll miss him.

Mike represents the dictionary definition of a life well lived.  I remember going to a UNM track meet with Mike at Zimmerman Stadium, probably during the spring of our junior year at Highland.  Somehow or another Mike talked his way (and mine) from the stands down onto the track.  He and I ended up holding the backs of starting blocks for the runners in the 440 yard (yup, yards, not meters) dash.  One of the UNM runners in that event was Adolph Plummer.  For the non-track and field fans, Plummer for a brief time held the world record in the 440.  What a magnificent stride Plummer had.  And Mike, what a magnificent stride and life you had.
