Terry Dear 5/15/1947-10/19/2024 Terrance "Terry" Lee Dear was born in Albuquerque, NM to Lucille and John. He was the 3rd of 4 brothers. One, his brother Johnny, who has survived him. He was married to his wife, Lea, for 50 years and celebrated their golden anniversary this February in Golden, Colorado. He has one daughter, Alexis, son-in- law, Jake, and 3 grandchildren, Hannah, Evie, and Neill. Golf was the family business and his Mom worked the golf shop and his Dad was a golf professional and that lead to his lifelong love and career of golf. Terry made amazing strides from a young age winning the Albuquerque City Championships multiple times starting at 10 years old. He was a high school state golf champion and a college All-American champion. His favorite golf stories and accomplishments were when he played in the US Open and the PGA Championship both in 1991. If you knew Terry, you knew his love for telling stories, especially golf ones and stories about history. He had a love of teaching others to play golf and was a most patient and involved teacher to all of his students. His golf accomplishments are too great in number to name them all. He met his his wife, Lea, in 1972 in Albuquerque, New Mexico where he was working at the University of New Mexico golf course and she was receiving her Master's in dental hygiene. They met through a mutual friend and neighbor. They fell in love and got married in February 1974 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Their careers took them to places including Sapphire Valley, North Carolina, Phoenix, Arizona, and Abilene, Texas but lived most of their life in Lubbock, Texas, where they had their daughter, Alexis, in 1987. They moved to Colorado in 2017 before the birth of their 2nd grandchild so they could be close to their daughter and 3 grandchildren. Terry was beloved by many and will be greatly missed and remembered by all who had the pleasure of knowing this incredible man. We will be celebrating his life on November 4th because he would get a kick out of the thought of going out on a Par 4. Those of you that know golf will appreciate that too. |

Terry was also the brother of Craig Dear who was also a golfer and on the Highland Golf Team. Craig was two years older and was graduate of the Class of '63. I knew Terry lived in Lubbock and now wish I visited him there to play golf 10 years ago when I still enjoyed the game. He is probably in Heaven now competeing with Craig and their Dad.
May he Rest in Peace
