Dean Lauser – A 22-year-old Northeast Heights man died early today in Presbyterian Hospital from head injuries he suffered in an automobile – motorcycle collision at Broadway and Indian School Road NE. A hospital spokesman said that Frances Dean Lauser, 416 Mission NE, died at 1:15 a.m. Police said that Mr. Lauser, who was on his way to pick up a sister at the University of New Mexico, struck the front fender of a car that pulled into his path about 2:45 p.m. yesterday. Police Sgt. John R Nelson said that Lauser was riding his motorcycle south on Broadway when an automobile driven east on Indian School Road by Moises J. Santillanes, 67, of 9511 Fourth NW, pulled in front of him. Police said that Lauser was thrown, head first, into the car’s windshield and then was tossed 32 feet from the scene of the collision. Sgt. Nelson said that the motorcyclist was not wearing a safety helmet. Mr. Santillanes was given a traffic citation charging failure to yield at a stop sign, police report. Lauser, who worked as a maintenance man on the night shift at Bataan Memorial Hospital, attended classes at the North American Technical Institute during the day, his mother said. “He was first in his class this term,” Linda Lauser said. “His hobby was his motorcycle: the mother said. “He has owned it for several months.” A 1965 graduate of Valley High School, Lauser joined the army shortly after graduation. “He spent two years in Korea with the service,” Mrs. Lauser said “and was discharged from the service, after four years, a year ago February.” The family attends the Harwood Methodist Church. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Fitzgerald and Son Funeral Directors. He is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Kent E. Lauser; a brother, Don, 15; sisters, Linda, 20 and Sue, 26 both living at home, and Mrs. Kenna Jarvis, Madison, WI, and grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Scott Halick, Albuquerque.
