My heart is heavy and has been all week! My beautiful Uncle David Chavez passed away on August 8th. There are a few people in this world that make you feel safe and teach you how to love in this world. He was one of them for me! He was kind, funny, sweet, talented, goofy, and yet so strong! He loved to play the violin and was very good at it. He used to play so many instruments for me when I was little and was always happy to see me. He wasn't afraid to be himself and was an amazing uncle. So amazing, that when I moved away I never forgot that I was loved and accepted. I will miss him very much and will love him always! by Halima Gill
My close college buddy and violist David Chavez. We used to call each other at 6am to make sure we were awake and could have a long, productive day. We eventually abandoned the idea after discovering we were both falling back asleep. I took him to see the Abo ruins, where he was shocked at my snake-catching skills, and he would always message me about subsequent trips he would take there. A very kind, gentle, sensitive and curious man who I will miss greatly. Here is a picture I saved from our college newspaper. Rest well, David. by Lucas Critchfield
So sorry to hear that my friend, fellow violist, and conductor David Chavez has passed away. I will miss your sense of humor, your musicianship, and your inimitable style. I know you are making great music up there. by Karl Winkler
