Obituary for Celia Talbert

Celia Talbert, age 60, of Mystic, IA, joined the wonderous afterlife on Tuesday, January 28, 2025.

Celia was born on November 14, 1964, in Oak Lawn, IL, to Al and MaryAnn (Houtzer) Brevard. At the age of 2 ½, her family moved to Alexandria, VA, where she’d spend several years before graduating from Fort Hunt High School in 1982. After high school, she lived in Del Valle, TX for a couple of years and then in the U.K. for a couple of years while serving her county in the United States Air Force. Celia then moved to Iowa in 1988-Ottumwa, Albia, and finally, Mystic pursuing her hospitality trade. On December 31, 1999, she was united in marriage to John Talbert in Albia.

Celia enjoyed being outdoors, flower gardening and harvesting her flower seeds to be planted the following year. She loved animals, especially her rescue cats. She was very talented and enjoyed arts and crafts, especially painting stones. Above all else, Celia enjoyed spending time with her family.

Celia is survived by her husband of 25 years, John Talbert of Mystic, IA; her children and stepchildren, all known as “the kids”; her grandchildren; a great grandchild; 2 brothers; and 2 sisters.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Al and MaryAnn Brevard and a brother.

Per Celia’s wishes, her body has been cremated and a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Cards of condolences/memorials can be sent to Celia’s family at 501 Lewis St., Mystic, IA 52574.

An open memorial has been established to the family.
