Robert Hensley - Class Of 1982

DECEASED ALUM:  ROBERT "ROB" HENSLEY - FHHS CLASS OF 1982

The following was posted on Facebook by Mark Hensley, FHHS '74:

Robert Hensley, my best friend and little brother, passed into eternity early Thursday evening, June 27th, 2024.

One of the most intelligent humans I have ever had the privilege to know, Rob lived a full and happy life, and he was brave enough to do it on his own terms. While deeply loving everyone in his circle, his heart was always kind and considerate of others. I can see him smile, hear him laugh and say, "I did it my way!"

Those of you who know him understand that he did everything with heart, school, sports and life. Maybe he gave so much heart that on Thursday evening, it finally gave out. He passed away while being comforted by his friend Dorothy Mahoney in the Cardiac ICU at Fairfax Hospital after a stay of over a week.

Rob graduated from Fort Hunt High School in Fairfax County and received his Bachelor of Arts from William and Mary, both in Virginia.

Son of Phyllis and Bernard Hensley, he is survived by my wife Jenny Hensley, our sister, Gaye Hensley, and his friend Dorothy Mahoney, our mother’s brother David and Beth Pickard, his children, Todd Pickard and Amy Pickard Jackson and their mother, our Aunt Trudy Koeze and our third cousin Deanna Pivoroff, our first cousins on our father's side Connie Sunnarborg and Rita Fossell, many other cousins and many friends.

I know I'm going to miss him. I've not yet realized how badly.

I will always love him.

"Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming "Wow! What a Ride!"

Rest in peace, Rob.  I remember playing football with you when I was ten, and seeing you at MYF at Aldersgate.  You won't be forgotten.
