OBITUARY
Sandra A. Ludwig, LCSW (Age 73)
October 16, 1950 - August 23, 2024
Of Alexandria, VA. Daughter of the late Benjamin J. Ludwig and Geri G.Ludwig (Feinstein). Sister of Dara L. Greene (Joshua E. Greene) of Fairfax, VA and Grant H. Ludwig (Liat Ida). Aunt of Ashira B. Beutler-Greene
(William W. Beutler), Alexander R. Greene, Yaron L. Ludwig, and Adam Z. Ludwig, and Great-aunt of Billy G. Beutler.
Born in Hartford, CT and raised in Alexandria, VA, Sandra was a member of the Fort Hunt High School
class of 1968, and obtained a degree in Sociology from the University of Maryland, College Park and a Master’s in Social Work from Washington University in St. Louis.
She was proud of her Peace Corps service in the Ivory Coast, as well as stints living and working in St. John, U.S. Virgin Islands and Hennepin County, Minnesota. In the Washington, D.C. area, she contributed professionally to community building and service as a child and adolescent social worker for the District of Columbia and Fairfax County Public School and Social Service systems.
Sandra especially loved her work in private practice with Northern Virginia Child and Family Services in Springfield, VA and as the Social Worker for the Pulley Career Center. Independent, principled, and resilient, Sandra founded the DC-area Women’s Adventure Club and served as a volunteer for the Soil and Marker
Committee of the Alexandria Community Remembrance Project, working to make sure that the history of African Americans in Alexandria is recognized and not forgotten.
The family of Sandra Ludwig wishes to extend sincere thanks to Dr. Jay Lustbader of Georgetown University Hospital and Dr. Karen Myers of Washington Internists Group for their care of Sandra throughout her life.
The funeral will be held on Friday, August 30, at King David Memorial Gardens in Falls Church, VA. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The Alexandria Community Remembrance Project’s Memorial
Scholarship Program, New Hope Housing, the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), or the Mayo Clinic.

From Doug Clark, FHHS '68
Sandra Ludwig passed away on 08/23 surrounded by members of her family who had been supporting her while she was in hospice care at her home. Her memorial service will be 11:00 am this Friday 08/30 at King David Memorial Garden in Falls Church. Her obituary is attached.
Sandra Ludwig and I have been neighbors in the same condo building in Old Town Alexandria since the early 2000's. I had a chance to visit with her a couple of weeks ago and we reminisced about our years at FHHS while looking through our senior yearbook. We laughed about the Krispy Kreme donut sales we did for the French Club the year she was president of that group. I will miss Sandra's engaging personality and delightful sense of humor.

I am saddened to learn that Sandra (Sandy as I remember her) has passed away. Thanks to the alphabetized nature of home rooms, the people I knew best tended to have last names beginning L-P and she and I shared the same home room for several years. At Fort Hunt I knew her to be not only smart but also kind and I am not surprised that she chose careers where she actively helped people. I am happy to read about her accomplishments and know what a rich life she led.
